Christmas Gifts 2016

Christmas shopping gives me mixed feelings. On one hand, I loved being able to have an excuse to spend money on gifts that I think my friends and family will enjoy. On the other, shopping malls give me headaches.

I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed black Friday shopping…and yet I somehow find myself in bumper to bumper traffic each time. I guess I like the thought of getting the best deal out there but the reality is less than desirable.

And with the onslaught of e-commerce it’s really no longer necessary to even leave the house to get the best deal. So for those who want to do all their Christmas shopping at home in their housecoats, here’s my list of the best Christmas gifts for 2016 to give to your friends and loved ones.

1. Essential Oils, Diffuser and Necklace

Essential oils for me are, well, essential. I’ve been using oils for the past 6 years and have found uses from cleaning to bug repellent to curing digestive issues and helping my hypothyroid! Essential oils in my opinion is THE best Christmas gift this year. Not only are oils becoming streamlined and very popular as a way to treat ailments at home but oils also have a special Christmas meaning.

Christmas is a celebration of Jesus’ birth. And what did the wise men bring to Jesus? Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. Frankincense and Myrrh are actually two very popular (and pricey) essential oils. However, in the years I’ve used oils (I’ve tried over 30), Frankincense is the most powerful and beneficial one in my experience. Of course, it all depends what you want to use them for.

I’ve purchased over 7 different kinds of essential oil brands. For awhile I thought about selling DoTerra but then I realized just how much the company rips off their ‘wellness advocates’ and that you can find just as high quality essential oils online or even from stores like Marshalls/TJ Maxx for a quarter of the price!

I like to buy my oils 100% pure with no added oils (basically concentrated). You can find other oils cheaper that are mixed with another carrier oil but then you can’t adjust the oil’s strength. Another great place to buy oils is Mountain Rose Herbs but if this is for a first-time oil user this essential oil kit is a great one to start with or if they already have oils maybe get them the Frankincense I mentioned above if they don’t have it in their collection.

Now, the oil itself is a great gift but if you really want to blow someone away (or if your friend or loved one already has essential oils) step up your Christmas gift game by including this diffuser and this adorable aromatherapy necklace.

2. Natural Humidifier

Have you ever noticed how itchy you get in the winter? Does it annoy you when  staticky clothes stick to you? You need a humidifier.

I know humidifiers can be expensive but these are actually natural humidifiers that claim to add water to the air without the noise or even electricity! They are called stone humidifiers. Basically, it’s a ball of clay and when you pour water on it the clay absorbs the water and then slowly releases it into the air. This is actually one of the products I’m personally buying this year so I can’t attest to it working yet but I’ve researched the science behind it and it sounds pretty legit.

Plus they are very inexpensive and definitely add a nice ambiance to a room.

3. Himalayan Salt Lamp

Going along our healthy home Christmas gift idea list, this Himalayan salt lamp not only is a natural ionizer for the air but it also gives off a lovely soft glow. I actually got one of these last Christmas and my husband and I love it!

For those who don’t know, my husband is a nutritionist and personal trainer. He recently did a study on the importance of sleep and how to get better sleep. Several of the podcasts he listens to and even a book about sleep he read mentioned the Himalayan salt lamp. The red glow from the salt lamp actually produces melatonin in your body and therefore helps you get to sleep faster.

4. Magnesium Spray

Talking about a good night’s sleep. Magnesium is one of those essential minerals we usually don’t get enough of. I had the opportunity to interview several sleep experts about their evening routine and habits they have that give them better sleep. Three of the nine mentioned using magnesium. However, they all took magnesium in different ways. Of course, you can take it through a pill form but one way that stood out for me was this spray magnesium.

Sure, it might not scream best Christmas gift in the world…but if you think about it, you’re not giving magnesium, you’re giving a better night’s sleep.

Now that’s a Christmas gift I think we all need 🙂

5.Ceramic Cookware

Okay, so I may be bias on this one BUT ONLY SLIGHTLY! Xtrema is one of our clients at the agency I work for. They sent me a set of their cookware to take pictures for their blog. I also do a lot of research to create that content regarding ceramic cookware and I can honestly say they have the BEST COOKWARE out there. You can see a comparison of cookware types here.

I cook dinner pretty much every night so making sure that no toxins or metals end up in our food is very important to me! This skillet is actually one of the items I use most from their Xtrema line of cookware. You can put it in the oven, stovetop, and grill (I once used it over an open fire and it was awesome).  You can use it to serve the dish after cooking and then even to store the food in the fridge. Super versatile! They are also scratch resistant, which makes cleaning up easy!
