hospital bag for birth

I’ve never been a Girl Scout but I definitely hold to the motto “Always Be Prepared”. I read dozens of articles on what to bring to the hospital, birthing bag checklists and natural hospital birthing books.  I had everything (I thought) packed neatly in this beautiful diaper bag (that doubled as my hospital bag).

My hospital bag had:

  • extra clothes
  • bath robe
  • grippy socks
  • crocs
  • swimsuit
  • towel
  • pads (cus the ones they give you at the hospital are so uncomfortable)
  • yoga mat
  • banana (potassium can help with the bleeding)
  • alkaline water (2 big bottles of CORE)
  • Miso/bone broth (in case I really need some nutritious liquid while in labor…never did eat this)
  • honey sticks (for energy during labor)
  • nursing tank top
  • phone charger
  • bluetooth speaker
  • snack bars for my husband
  • essential oils for birth room
  • Norwex cloth (for cleaning tub)
  • baby clothes and blanket
  • nursing scarf
  • bottle for nursing in case I needed to hand express

Now you may think that just about covered it (and that my hospital bag is really a Mary Poppins bag) but the one thing I forgot to pack in my hospital bag was a durable water bottle that was easy to drink out of. I downed the two Core waters within 5 hrs of labor so the nurses brought this giant Styrofoam cup with a lid and straw that they constantly had to refill every hour for me and I don’t like drinking out of styrofoam (ick). What I really needed was THIS. I ended up ordering this Iron Flask 32 oz water bottle in peach the first week home and I love it!

I’ve always been a glass water bottle person but my last one broke a few months before my due date and I hadn’t found one I liked yet. But, boy, are you thirsty when nursing. I was going through 100 oz a day and constantly refilling the tiny tea diffuser glass bottle (that was only 16oz) was not gonna hack it, especially at night where I seemed to drink the most. The last thing you want to do after giving birth is walk to the water dispenser at 2am.

The Iron Flask water bottle didn’t have any bad smell or metal taste. It also came with 3 lid options – I’ve been drinking from the straw version, which is easier from such a large bottle. It’s also very easy to clean. They also have 6 different sizes from 14 oz to 64 oz so you’re sure to find the right one for you.

I’m drinking out of mine right now. 😀

Stay hydrated my friends!
